Joy, celebration, festival — jubilation & cherries “jubilee”; Our name refers to African American folk songs celebrating / predicting future joy and deliverance, and is used as the term to annually honor the 1863 emancipation proclamation; Abrahamic religions, (including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, representing 53%+ of global population), use it to describe debt and servitude forgiveness; The oldest Egyptian papyrus scroll uses a word that translates to “jubilee” to denote, “the moment we remember who we really are”.

Motivated young people, age 18-24, who seek to help reimagine the world we live in. Individuals who thrive in a creative, experiential setting, who want to challenge themselves. Those who have strong opinions, and who play well with others.

Jubilee College is free (tuition & lodging) for most students. Students are expected to work in the collective governance and economic activities of the school and those efforts defray the expenses of the college.

- Prospective students for our Fall 2026 cohort submit a letter of inquiry.
- You’ll be invited (if selected) to attend an online information session/open house.
- You’ll visit the campus in Dunsmuir, California for a weekend to meet faculty, administrators, advisors, and other potential students while exploring the unique setting.
- You’ll prepare and submit a formal application.
- We will let you know if you are selected.

Yes, but we will not accept credits from other learning institutions. All students of Jubilee College participate in the same curriculum, aside from student’s self-study courses.

Yes, we encourage international students to apply, and anticipate there will be many international students in the first cohort, (Fall 2026).
For international students, the application process is like the application process for domestic students, with one major exception. If an applicant has not attended an English-speaking secondary school or college, we will ask for proof of English proficiency through the TOEFL, the IELTS, or other equivalent exam.

Jubilee College operates year-round, with orientation, courses, and service work beginning in early August 2026 and finishing in late July 2028. You can get a sense of our typical schedule by looking at the academic calendar.
